Construction of a house requires perfect planning and the sufficient strength to withstand loads of the structure and the certain natural disasters. In order to deliver such strength, the TMT steel reinforced bars are primarily used. Thermo Mechanically Treated (TMT) steel reinforced bars are known for their absolute strength and ductility. TMT is actually an innovated procedure performed on the hot rolled steel bars, which results in a strong outer martensite layer that deals the tensile strength and a soft ferrite-pearlite inner core which deals with the ductility factor. Continuing from the previous blog, we will be taking a close look at how TMT bars changed Indian construction sector. One of the huge factors which not many discuss is that India is itself a source of cheap and high-quality TMT bars. The steel industry has always one of the successful heavy engineering sectors in India. This meant that India always had a steady supply of TMT bars no matter the situation in the markets.
A building in only strong as its structure, this strength allows structures have an operation lifecycle of many years, right up to 200 years. This operational longevity may seem long when seeing structures which are old than 500 years. The difference here is with respect to cost, the time taken to build these structures and much more metrics related to the construction field. For example, the Taj Mahal took 20 years and 20,000 workers were needed to finish the structure, no doubt the structure is a testament of the structural creativity and the structural integrity, the reason why it still stands. What modern architecture has built these of structures to be made at less cost, safer, and reduced number of workers as well. One of the reasons for this is concrete and the concrete is bonded with TMT bars.
